Florida Springs Kayaking meets guests on two Central Florida spring runs: the Silver River at Silver Springs State Park in Silver Springs / Ocala, and the Rainbow River near Dunnellon. Both are classic day trips from Orlando, Tampa and Gainesville. Silver Springs is about an hour and a half from the Orlando area. Rainbow River is a similar Central Florida drive from Orlando or Tampa. Plan extra time on weekends, then leave the theme-park pace behind once you reach the water.

Silver Springs feels more remote: dense forest, glass-clear water and a stronger chance of wildlife encounters, including seasonal manatees and the river’s well-known monkeys. Rainbow River is famous for turquoise color, sandy bottom, a bright open spring-run feel and a family of river otters. Both stay around 72 degrees year-round.

Possibly, but wildlife is wild. Manatees are more often seen at Silver Springs in the cooler months. Monkeys live along the Silver River and are best enjoyed from a respectful distance. Sightings are never guaranteed.

The everyday company is fish, turtles and birds. Gar, mullet and bass move under a clear hull. Turtles stack on logs. Herons, anhingas, ibis and limpkins work both rivers. A transparent hull turns the riverbed into a moving window. On Florida spring water you see eelgrass, sand, fish and filtered sunlight without leaning over the side. It’s the same easy sit-down paddle, just with the view below you included.

A clear kayak is the more settled choice: sit low, stay stable and keep looking down. A paddleboard is more upright and active, with a wide view of the river. If you’re new to the water, the kayak is usually the easier first ride.

Yes. Singles and tandems are part of the mix, so couples, friends and families can paddle together or on their own. You choose the boats and the number of seats on the booking page, and the total updates as you go, so there is no guessing at the price for your group.

Alligators live on Florida spring runs, and it is a fair thing to ask about before you put your kids in a kayak. They are naturally wary of people and boats, and a paddler gliding by is not something they see as a threat or a meal, so they keep to themselves when you give them room. Enjoy them from a distance, never feed or approach wildlife, and stay with your group.
